Omoleye is a Senior majoring in Communication on the Digital & Media track, she also has a minor in Humanities, Health and Medicine. She is from Baltimore, Maryland, but when she came into the University of Maryland she came in on the Pre-Medical Track but quickly realized she had a passion for other things! Some of her hobbies are content creating, editing, visiting museums, painting, etc. Omoleye has a YouTube channel that she created during the pandemic, and she enjoys creating vlogs, fashion videos, and some occasional school related videos. Due to her background on YouTube, Omoleye enjoys public speaking and understands that it can be nerve wrecking, so she makes sure to break before anything and takes her time to present. She loves to give back and knew the OCC would help her learn more about herself while giving back to the community!
Lara is a sophomore from Montgomery County, Maryland majoring in communication, concentrating in public relations. She loves to share her communication knowledge with others, which she has gained through emceeing events, debate contests, and acting experience. Therefore, Lara has been passionate about public speaking since a very young age. She is also involved in other communities such as University Honors and National Honor Societies. Aside from public speaking, she enjoys being social and spending time with family and friends. Through her enjoyment of spending time with others, Lara hopes to team up with the OCC to work with her peers in order to promote well-rounded and impactful speakers. She believes that it is crucial for every individual to be able to communicate their ideas to the world, which she hopes to be able to encourage in others while on the job.
Morgan Bailey is a sophomore at University of Maryland majoring in communication on a public advocacy track minoring in technology entrepreneurship. She is from Prince George's County and came to UMD to be close to home. Throughout high school, she had various experiences with public speaking including being president of her senior class, speaking at her graduation, and other public events! She wanted to become a peer consultant because she loves helping others build their confidence to do all things. Being able to tutor in public speaking is a valuable skill to have and can help individuals in many ways. Morgan enjoys going to the beach, reading her bible and traveling while also posting on her Youtube channel showcasing her day to day life!
Chelsea Boyer is a junior studying communication on a political communication and public advocacy track with a minor in public leadership. She is also from Pittsburgh, PA, and transferred to UMD in the Spring of 2023. Outside of being a peer consultant, she is involved in various organizations on campus including SGA, Terps Raising pups, and being an ARHU Ambassador. She loves meeting new people and challenging herself by getting outside of her comfort zone. She wanted to become more involved with the communication department while also helping fellow students with their public speaking skills, which led her to the OCC! This is
Alexis is a junior Communications major with a minor in leadership studies from Pasadena, Maryland. She has always been comfortable with public speaking & was very excited to learn about the OCC & its services. This will be Alexis' first semester as a consultant & she's excited for everything she has to learn, the opportunity to help students present confidently, & to work with her peers! Alexis is passionate about many aspects of communication and collaborating with people, which is what ultimately led her to pursue her major. Outside of the classroom, Alexis is involved with greek life and is a part of the Mighty Sound of Maryland, the university's marching band. She is very excited to work with the OCC this semester!
Elise is a sophomore studying Communication on a Public Relations track. Elise discovered her passion for the major after taking COMM107 at the University of Maryland, College Park. She lives in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the Freshman Liaison for the University of Maryland’s PINK Campus Team, and enjoyed promoting the brand through community engagement, Instagram takeovers, and connecting with other freshmen. In her free time, Elise likes to read sci-fi and fantasy books, write short stories, play badminton, and paint. By working at the OCC, Elise wants to help others find their voice and provide advice on how to feel more confident speaking to an audience. She cannot wait to gain more experience in Public Relations by working at the OCC!
Eric is a senior studying communication on the media and digital track. Eric uncovered his interest in the major after taking COMM107 and COMM449. He lives in College Park, Maryland and grew up in the Jersey Shore. He transferred from Towson University to the University of Maryland as a sophomore. Through his experience as a COMM major, he developed his presentational speaking with trial and error. What drew him to the OCC was opportunity and genuine interest. He believes that this opportunity would allow him to grow as a speaker and be able to gain experience through analyzing clients. In Eric’s free time, he enjoys going to the gym and runs a fitness page on Instagram. Being an OCC peer consultant he wants to help and guide individuals through their presentational journeys and improve their confidence.
Sydney Cohn is a senior at the University of Maryland studying Communications on the Media and Digital Track. Upon graduation, she will be working for Paycom, an HRIS Software company, specifically with their sales department. On campus, Sydney is extremely involved with multiple clubs and organizations, and she enjoys taking on leadership roles. She was so drawn to the COMM major here on campus due to the versatility of what you can do with a COMM degree! After taking many classes within the department and building connections, she
was excited to join the OCC as a tutor to help future students gain confidence in their public speaking abilities! The OCC is such a phenomenal resource, and Sydney loves being a part of it!
Ella Cooper is a Sophomore at the University of Maryland studying Communication with a concentration in Public Relations. She is active in the campus community as a member of Maryland Images, the tour guide association, as well as being an ambassador for Carillon Communities. She is also an active member in Greek Life and several other organizations such as Meor. From an early age, Ella has always had a passion for public speaking and helping others, so she is very excited that the OCC is a place that offers both. She is a hard-working, organized individual who loves collaborating with others and learning new things. She is very excited to bring her preexisting knowledge to the table and expand it greatly.
Kyle is a junior from Clarksburg, Maryland, studying communication. In his free time he enjoys spending time with friends on campus, working out, and is a member of the club golf team. Kyle has always enjoyed public speaking and felt that it was a strong skill set for him. He looks forward to helping others at the OCC this semester and learning from his peers at the same time!
Delaney is a sophomore political communication and public advocacy major, from Bellingham, Washington. She is involved in various on and off campus extracurriculars including Greek life and volunteer work. In her free time, Delaney enjoys spending time outside, staying active, and hanging out with friends. She found her love for communications through watching her parents work with many nonprofit organizations while encouraging her and her brothers to stay engaged with their community throughout her childhood. Delaney is always open to help with presentations or speeches and she can't wait to work with her peers in the OCC!
Natalie is a general communication major from PG County, MD. She is passionate about connecting and helping others. Outside of academics, Natalie finds joy in music and spending quality time with her friends. She didn't have much of an interest in public speaking until she enrolled in COMM107, where she discovered her deep love for it. Through her experiences in customer service, she discovered satisfaction in helping others, fueling her commitment to making a positive impact.
Nikki is a sophomore studying Communications on a Public Relations track. She found her passion for public speaking when she gave her high school graduation speech. She fell in love with the entire process from excited planning to nervous practicing, creating a rewarding experience overall. Now, she is a peer mentor for first year students in the College Park Scholars program, as well as a tour guide for UMD! She loves to immerse herself in positions that involve mentorship and public speaking, so when her classmate recommended being a peer consultant at the Oral Communication Center she immediately applied. Nikki is so excited for the opportunities provided by the OCC to strengthen other students' public speaking skills as well as her own!
Brandon Hermosa is a sophomore at University of Maryland, College Park. He is a Communications Major with a specialization in Public Relations. He hopes to pursue a career in Public Relations or Human Resources after he graduates. In High School, Brandon participated in public speaking activities like Debate and Mock Trial. He also tutored for 2 years at the Immigration Outreach Service Center in Loch Raven. Brandon has always had a passion for teaching and tutoring and is excited to help people become more confident in their communication capabilities.
Jessica Kalmowitz is a sophomore at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is originally from Sharon, Massachusetts but moved to Providence, Rhode Island in 2021. Jessica is a Communications major on the Public Relations track. Outside of being a peer consultant, Jessica is involved in Greek life, where she holds positions as the External Philanthropy Chairwoman and the Alumnae Relations Chairwoman. Additionally, she is a tour guide through the Maryland Images program. She has always been extremely comfortable speaking in front of groups and appreciates being able to help others. This is Jessica's second semester being a part of the OCC and looks forward to helping students boost their confidence and capabilities in public speaking!
Elijah is a sophomore from West Hartford, Connecticut. Currently his major is undecided, although he is looking to pursue management after deciding that the pre-med track was not for him. He discovered the OCC after having to rehearse his speech for COMM107 his freshman year and very much enjoyed his time and the critiques he received while practicing. He also had a very impactful COMM107 instructor, which inspired him to join the OCC to work with his peers and try to improve their public speaking skills. He thinks these abilities are frequently overlooked since they aren't regularly utilized in certain classroom scenarios, and he is determined to significantly impact others as they navigate interviews and pursue diverse careers.
Yukai is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in biology, specializing in evolution and ecology. He is a sophomore from Chengdu, Sichuan, a region in Southwest China. Eager to foster a diverse educational environment, Yukai has joined the OCC to broaden his academic and social horizons beyond his immediate circle of peers.In his personal life, Yukai is an avid animal enthusiast, raising a variety of pets including koi, aquatic turtles, tarantulas, and a cute kitten named Susu. His personality is often characterized by amiability, logical thinking, and a gentle yet reserved demeanor. Beyond his academic pursuits, Yukai engages in the Chinese secondary market, enjoys skiing, and dedicates time to reading texts on evolutionary biology and watching movies, particularly those produced by Christopher Nolan. Yukai is enthusiastic about becoming a valuable consultant and looks forward to making new friends every week.
Hope is a sophomore communication major on the public relations track with a creative writing minor from Pittsburgh, PA. Hope's whole family has attended the University of Maryland so she is a proud Terp. In addition to working at the OCC and studying public relations, Hope loves writing poetry and fiction in her free time. Since her 8th grade English class, Hope has loved public speaking and is excited to provide her knowledge with other students! Hope strives to increase both confidence and consistency in other students when it comes to public speaking.
Katelynn is a junior in Digital and Media Communication. She moved to Maryland from Vietnam in 2017. Before attending UMD, she earned an associate degree in Communication at Howard Community College. An interesting fact about her is that she was inspired by a communication liaison character on the TV show Criminal Minds to study Communication, even though she has no desire to work for the FBI. However, it wasn't until she took public speaking classes that her passion for public speaking developed. In her free time, Katelynn enjoys watching crime shows and listening to true crime podcasts while also managing content creation and editing for her YouTube channel. This will be Katelynn's first semester with the OCC, where she hopes to gain new knowledge and share insights about effective public speaking techniques with other students. She also looks forward to collaborating with peers.
Jeremy is a Senior Communication student in the General Communication track from Silver Spring, Maryland. In his free time he enjoys listening to music, cooking, drawing/painting, and being in nature. People describe him as friendly, genuine, spiritual, caring, and generous. He also enjoys being upbeat, and having a good sense of humor. Jeremy also manages his own business – Elite Lead Inspections LLC, that provides lead inspection services for residential real estate rental properties in local Maryland cities. He is also very talented in public speaking and has had experience presenting his business’ services to various Real Estate office board meetings in Maryland. He is studious, professional, presentable, and helpful in helping with public speaking/topics in Communication.
Sheridan McFall is a senior at the University of Maryland majoring in communication on the media and digital track and minoring in Professional writing. Upon graduation, she will be stepping into the position of Marketing Coordinator at Buch Construction. An active member of campus life, Sheridan thrives in her involvement with Greek Life, taking on the position of new member educator and the graphics chair. While this semester marks Sheridan’s debut as a consultant, she is excited to guide students to discover their voices and build their confidence. Beyond her academic and professional pursuits, Sheridan enjoys reading, hanging out with friends, going to concerts, and boating if she is in her hometown of Annapolis, MD. Overall, Sheridan looks forward to making new connections as she enhances students’ public speaking skills and fosters a supportive community within the OCC.
Arianna is a junior majoring in Communication on the PR track, Ari is from Silver Spring, Maryland and discovered her passion for public speaking during her high school years, where she actively participated in Model UN and enjoyed giving presentations. It was there that she first discovered her skills in engaging audiences and creating original presentations. Arianna enjoys the creative aspect of presentations, where she can design visually appealing and informative slides that enhance her delivery. Now, as a peer consultant, Arianna is excited to share her expertise with fellow students. She believes that the ability to captivate and maintain an audience's attention is a valuable skill in today's professional landscape. Her dedication to helping others develop their own presentation skills is a testament to her commitment to personal and professional growth. Beyond her academic pursuits, Arianna enjoys watching movies, exploring museums, and attending concerts.
Gem Miller is a junior Communications major from Silver Spring, Maryland. They work at College Park's radio station WMUC as a DJ and as Operations Director. Gem has a passion for public speaking and media communications, specifically within music media. They love helping others better their work regardless of their path or field of study. Gem looks forward to working with new people and gaining new experiences throughout this semester.
Josh Morris is a senior communication major. He is a native of Prince George’s County, Maryland. A retired football player, he now spends his free time working out, reading, watching movies and watching sports. He likes trying new things and helping people, two things he hopes to accomplish in his first year working as a consultant with the OCC. As someone who has given numerous presentations and spent many hours stressing about public speaking, he is hoping to help other students conquer their fear of public speaking.

She decided to join greek life during her second semester at Maryland and loves being involved in a community with such wonderful people. Her love for presenting and public speaking comes from years of giving presentations in her advanced Spanish classes. She also took a year of a public speaking workshop through an organization called the Starfish Project for Kids. passion to travel and explore new places. Thomas is also very talkative, sociable and outgoing
as well as having a passion for wanting to help others. Thomas became inspired to become a
communication major by realizing his passion for communicating with others and his passion
for public speaking. This semester, he is looking forward to working at the OCC, helping others with their speaking skills, as well as working with the other tutors.
